Frequently Asked Questions

What's the point of this site?

This site aims to be the central database for collecting declarations of independence from people over 16 living in Scotland. If a critical mass of declarations is reached, we will have a mandate, and can claim a Unilateral Declaration of Independence for Scotland

Don't you need a physical signature?

Once we reach well over a million declarations, there will be a feature to print off a declaration.

Who will collect my signed declaration?

The Yes campaign didn't have any problems on a grass roots level. If we near our goal, then this site will be the talk of the town, and the Yes movement will remobilise into action!

Aren't there lots of UDI groups on Facebook etc?

Yes there are. That's the problem. Searching through Facebook, you might never find them. This site aims to address this issue.

Why do you want my address?

Your name and address are all that is required to vote. This makes it easier for us to prove to Westminster that you are who you say you are. Anyone can sign a declaration with nothing but a signature on it, but how is anyone to know exactly who you are?

What will you do with my details?

Nothing. They aren't for sale, and won't be shared. Only if we near two million declarations will we start collecting signed printouts for taking to Westminster.

Who are you?

My name is Derek Stephen McLean. You may have seen me reporting events LIVE through my other site IndependenceLive. I'm just a guy who knew nothing about politics, and a lot about technology.

Why are you doing this?

Truthfully? I felt like these groups on Facebook were scattered, hard to find, and filled with bickering about how to go forward. I was looking to build a new website using some hot new web development technologies, and the idea just popped into my head.

Should Scotland become an independent country?

Absolutely. Make your declaration, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and share the website with as many friends as you can! Another Scotland is possible.
